Driftwise Health Disclaimer
This disclaimer is available in several languages. In case of any discrepancy between translations, the English version prevails.
In short
Driftwise is here to help you feel better when you travel across time zones. It offers general circadian and jet-lag guidance: suggestions for when to seek or avoid light, when to aim for sleep, and (where relevant) when melatonin is commonly used. That guidance is for information only. It is not medical advice, and Driftwise is not a medical device. You know your body and your health best, and a doctor or pharmacist knows it better than an app can, so when in doubt, ask one.
1. Driftwise is information, not medical advice
The content, schedules, and recommendations Driftwise provides are general informational and educational guidance to help you plan your adaptation to a new time zone. They are not:
- medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment;
- a substitute for the advice of a qualified physician, pharmacist, or other healthcare professional;
- a medical device, and they are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease or health condition.
Always seek the advice of a qualified healthcare professional with any questions you have about your health, sleep, medication, or a medical condition. Never disregard professional medical advice, or delay seeking it, because of something Driftwise suggested. If you think you may have a medical emergency, contact your local emergency services right away.
2. Recommendations are general, and results vary
Driftwise generates suggestions based on the trip details and preferences you enter and on general circadian science. Everybody's body clock is a little different, and many things Driftwise cannot know (your overall health, medications, work schedule, and individual sensitivity) affect how you actually respond. Treat Driftwise's recommendations as a helpful starting point, not a prescription, and adjust to how you feel.
3. About melatonin
If Driftwise suggests melatonin timing, please keep in mind:
- Melatonin is a supplement (and in some countries a regulated or prescription product). Its availability, dosing, and rules differ from place to place.
- Talk to a doctor or pharmacist before using melatonin, especially if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, if you are taking any other medication (melatonin can interact with some medicines), or if you have a health condition.
- Melatonin can cause drowsiness. Do not take it before driving or operating machinery, and be mindful of its timing relative to activities that need your full alertness.
Driftwise does not supply melatonin and does not recommend a specific brand or dose; any dosing information is general and should be confirmed with a professional.
4. About bright light
Light exposure is a core part of resetting your body clock, and Driftwise may suggest when to seek or avoid bright light. Please take care if any of the following apply to you:
- you have an eye condition or are recovering from eye surgery;
- you have light sensitivity (photosensitivity), or take medication that increases sensitivity to light;
- you have bipolar disorder or another mood condition, as light timing can affect mood and sleep, so coordinate with your healthcare professional;
- you experience migraines, seizures, or other conditions that can be triggered by light.
If in doubt, check with your healthcare professional before following light-exposure recommendations, and never look directly at intense light sources.
5. Driftwise does not diagnose or treat sleep disorders
Driftwise is designed to help with the temporary disruption of crossing time zones (jet lag) and related schedule shifts. It is not intended to diagnose or treat sleep disorders such as insomnia, sleep apnea, circadian rhythm sleep-wake disorders, or any other medical condition. If you have ongoing sleep problems or suspect a sleep disorder, please consult a qualified healthcare professional.
6. Drowsiness, driving, and safety
Adjusting across time zones, with or without melatonin, can leave you tired at unexpected hours.
- Do not drive or operate machinery when you feel drowsy.
- Be cautious with any activity that requires full alertness if you're sleep-deprived or have just taken a sleep aid.
- Listen to your body over the app: if a recommendation would have you doing something while you feel impaired, don't.
7. Talk to a professional if you have a health condition
Please consult a qualified healthcare professional before acting on Driftwise's recommendations if you:
- are pregnant or breastfeeding;
- have a medical condition (including heart, neurological, psychiatric, sleep, or eye conditions);
- take medication of any kind;
- are caring for or planning to use the app's guidance for a child (see our age guidance in the Privacy Policy); or
- have any doubt about whether a recommendation is right for you.
8. Your acknowledgment
By using Driftwise, you acknowledge that you understand and accept this Health Disclaimer, that you use Driftwise's guidance at your own discretion and risk, and that, to the extent permitted by law and as further described in our Terms of Use, Driftwise is not liable for decisions you make based on the App's general guidance. Nothing here limits any liability that cannot be limited under applicable law, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence.
